Multiplication of 547mt of foundation seed
to about 2,807mt of certified seed for distribution to farmers through the GES
scheme in 2013
·
NCRI produced 10mt and 29mt of breeder and
foundation seeds respectively, while the IITA Ibadan produced 40mt all for
multiplication into certified seed which was distributed in 2013.
·
Sensitization/advocacy visit was conducted to
seven states namely: Benue, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Niger, Plateau and FCT.
·
Visit to some soybean end-users: Nestle PLC
Lagos, Obasanjo Holdings, Animal Care Services Consult in Ogun State, Hule
Soybean Mills in Makurdi, Falke Soybean Mills in Kaduna and Small/Medium Scale
Poultry Feed Mills in Kaduna and States for marketing enhancement strategy.

Six staff trained in the use of GPS to
survey and record actual cropped area.
·
The value chain in collaboration with state
government organised farmers into production clusters in seven (7) statesviz:
Benue, Nasarawa, Enugu, Kaduna, Plateau, Katsina and Niger.
·
A total of about 105,154 soybean farmers were
registered in the 36 States of the Federation and FCT.
2013 ACHIEVEMENT
·
The STVC was successfully implemented in 20
states namely: Kaduna, Benue, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Katsina, Kebbi,
Kwara, Jigawa, Niger, Nasarawa, FCT, Oyo, Plateau, Cross-River, Zamfara, Ekiti,
Kogi and Sokoto.

70mt of foundation and 5mt of breeder seeds
were produced by NCRI for multiplication into certified seeds.
·
The following inputs were distributed to 40,000
farmers through GES out of which 27,556 farmers redeemed.
ü 2,000mt
of certified seeds distributed to farmers @ 50kg/farmers.
ü 80,000
bags of single superphosphate (SSP) fertilizer distributed to farmers @ 2
bags/farmers.
ü 80,000
litres of herbicide @ 2litres / Farmers and
ü 400,000
sachets of seed – dressing fungicide @10 sachets/farmer.
ü Each
farmer was required to pay a token of N6,800 for GES input package out of the
total inputs cost of N23,600 (the seed component was at no cost to the farmer).

Carried out Sensitization workshop with the stakeholders
in 20 soybean producing states to present with the action plan of the value
chain’s activities and to get them involved in the programme.
·
Organised a Stakeholders’ workshop in IITA
Ibadan on re-packaging the soybean transformation agenda as a Stand-alone
Transformation Value Chain with the objective of coming up with a list of
priority interventions, budget and planned activities.
·
Organised a Training workshop at AkperaOrshi
College of Agriculture Yandev Benue for 180 farmers on improved agronomic
practices to enhance soybean production output, farm gate processing and
marketing to improve product quality.
·
Procured 40 units of multi-purpose threshing
machines for distribution to farmers’ cooperative group (at 50% subsidy) to
reduce drudgery in farm-gate processing and encourage mechanical method of
threshing among farmers.
·
Contract was awarded to NCAM to fabricate 100
units of multipurpose threshing machines for farm – gate processing for distribution
to soybean farmers, 40 units has been fabricated and awaiting certification
before distribution to farmers.
2014
ACHIEVEMENT
·
Additional registration of farmers in the 20
States
·
The Soybean farmers’ lists from the States
were uploaded into the data base of Cellulant and a roll-out template was
prepared by Cellulant and sent to all participating States.
·
Supported about 29,830 out of 50,000 farmers
targeted in the 20 implementing states with: 25kg of improved soybean certified
seed at 10% subsidy, 2 bags of 50kg SSP fertilizer and 1 litre of herbicide per
farmer both at 50% subsidy respectively.
·
NCRI produced 86mt of Foundation Seeds of
soybean to be multiplied into certified seed for distribution to farmers in
2015.
