The major constraints or challenges in the implementation of this
programme include the following:
ü Lack of high yielding,
non-shattering and disease resistant varieties of soybean seeds.
ü Non adoption of improved
technologies due to poor regular trainings/capacity building of farmers and
Extension Agents
ü The problems of short
longevity (lifespan) nature of seed due to its oil content.
ü The present low yielding
condition of the crop as compared to other contemporary crops such as maize and
rice.
ü Marketing constraints due to
lack of market information on the part of small scale soybean farmers.
ü Non adoption of Sole
Cropping pattern resulting to low hectarage as the crop is being cultivated as
a minor crop.
ü Lack of strong/functional
Soybean Farmers’ Association with national identity that can create the
required value added chain which will move the sector forward.
ü Insufficient budget allocation leading
to low production and further necessitate importing of processed soybean cake
by processors and marketers.
